Our Vision

Like everyone who spends time on L'Isle-aux-Allumettes, we cherish the beauty of its natural areas. The Forêt de L'Isle strives to protect this natural beauty in perpetuity while making it more accessible to the public, protecting a forest for its ecological, economic, and recreational values.

Our vision is to create a public forest that will eventually be crossed by multi-use trails. Allowing residents and visitors to walk, cross-country ski, run, or bike to take in the beauty of the island. We hope to create a place where neighbours can meet up to be together surrounded by nature, and community members can explore the amazing nature we have in our own backyard.

Our Guiding Values

  • The forests of L'Isle-aux-Allumettes are integral to the ecological health of the region.
  • Communities have an obligation to protect and be stewards of local ecological and hydrological systems.
  • Without action, suburban sprawl will continuously erode community members' ability to access natural areas.
  • Access to nature for recreation purposes are of significant importance to the community culturally and to our local economy.
  • Access to the nature in our local landscapes is essential to our physical, mental, and spiritual health as a community.
  • A balanced approach to the planning and management of trail networks is needed to minimize ecological impacts.
  • Restoration work is integral to the long term viability of conservation efforts.
  • We have a responsibility to be an open and inclusive organization that works collaboratively with all stakeholders.
  • We have a responsibility as community leaders to be positive, inclusive, and inspiring and to model integrity and good governance.
